Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a specialized medical treatment in which the patient breathes 100% oxygen inside a pressurized chamber. The therapy quickly delivers high concentrations of oxygen into the bloodstream which assists in healing. HBOT may be used for diabetic wounds of the lower extremities and other wounds, infections involving flesh eating bacteria, chronic osteomyelitis (bone infection), delayed radiation tissue injury, skin grafts and flaps, as well as preparation for certain surgeries.
There are other indications for which insurance will not cover; however research is ongoing for future treatment indications. Cosmetic surgery patients also benefit from HBOT treatments post op to help the healing process.
While in the chamber the patient may lie flat or sit up. We have movies and music for the duration of the treatment, or in many cases the patient will nap.
Length of treatment varies based on the condition being treated but generally last approximately 90 minutes. The patient can be treated once a day, 5 days a week up to approximately 40-60 treatments. Treatment duration is based on guidelines and response to treatment.
All of our doctors, as well as our techs, are hyperbaric trained. A tech will be in the room constantly, observing and charting. Our doctors are also Infectious Disease trained physicians. They can follow a hospitalized patient and once discharged the patient may come to our office for wound care, infusion therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
TOTAL WOUND CARE is not just a phrase for us, but rather our motto and goal.
Dr. Gary Bergen, Dr. Mark Brown, Dr. Vato Bochorishvili and staff welcome you to stop by for a view of the oxygen chambers and tour of our facility.
