GOLISANO CHILDREN’S MUSEUM OF NAPLES AND NCH PARTNER ON HEALTH & WELLNESS EDUCATION

NAPLES, Fla. (May 4, 2010) – The Golisano Children's Museum of Naples (C'mon) and the NCH Healthcare System are pleased to announce an exciting new long-term partnership to enhance the health and wellness educational programs offered to the families of Southwest Florida.

C'mon and NCH will work together to develop and present health and wellness programs to the community. Programs will be designed to address the top health issues facing families in Southwest Florida, such as childhood obesity, and will be conducted at the Museum, at the healthcare system, at partnering organization's programs and in the schools. An annual health fair will be hosted at the new Museum once opened in 2011.

“The collaboration between NCH Healthcare System and the Golisano Children's Museum of Naples is a natural partnership that will benefit kids and families throughout Southwest Florida,” said C'mon Executive Director Joe Cox. “Experts believe that family education is the single most important factor in promoting health choices. With more than 31 million visitors to children's museums around the country each year, we have the tremendous potential to reach children and parents with healthy messages that will have a lifelong impact.”

The partnership will kick off with a special presentation to NCH Healthcare System's “New and Expectant Mothers Lunch and Learn.” On May 4 at 11:30 a.m. new and expectant mothers attending the class will receive a one-year family membership to the Golisano Children's Museum of Naples. Reporters and photographers are welcome to cover this important announcement for the community.

“By working together, the Golisano Children's Museum of Naples and the NCH Healthcare System can help the families in Southwest Florida take proactive steps that will create and preserve health and wellness,” said Allen Weiss, M.D., President and CEO, NCH Healthcare System. “Education is the key. Studies show that 70 percent of chronic illnesses are caused by lifestyle choice and through education, family members, both young and old can improve their health.”

About the Golisano Children's Museum of Naples

The Golisano Children's Museum of Naples will be Southwest Florida's first learning environment devoted exclusively to child's play, the serious business of discovery that helps children attain hallmark milestones on the journey into adulthood. Scheduled to open in 2011, C'mon will be a 30,000-square-foot museum for families located in the North Collier Regional Park (on Livingston Road just south of Immokalee Road). More than a building, C'mon presents a well-rounded universe that is full of exhibits and programs that lead children and their families on a journey from the swamps of the Everglades to the outer reaches of the galaxy and from an experience at a working farm to a day at the beach. The Golisano Children's Museum of Naples will be fully accessible to all children regardless of their physical or learning ability. To learn more, visit http://www.cmon.org/.
