FAQs

Yes, we are affiliated with the Mayo Clinic and the University of Central Florida. This includes the opportunity to do away rotations at Mayo Clinic, interact with visiting professors, share educational resources such as “Ask Mayo Expert” and research collaborations.

We have ample ancillary services such as phlebotomy, transporters, EKG and radiology technicians which decreases “scut” work to a minimum.

We begin accepting applications via ERAS on September 1, 2020. The application deadline is October 23, 2020.

We only sponsor J1.

Passing Step 3 is not a requirement to apply to our program. We would like to see Step 3 taken early in your training. Either before you start your internship or by December of your first year.

In general, each house staff member (intern/senior resident) are expected to take on overnight admission and one admission during the day.

NCH Internal Medicine Residency Program selects from among eligible applicants on the basis of their preparedness and anticipated ability to be successful in the program.

We have a rotating three-day admitting call cycle; Long – Mid – Early call.

Yes, outside elective opportunities are available. We have had several residents do electives at other institutions.

We review each application in its entirety once submitted on ERAS, and invite candidates we feel would be a good fit in our program.

For the 2020 application season, interviews will be held virtually on select Monday to Fridays, October to January, via Zoom.

The interview day will be conducted virtually. You will receive an itinerary the week before your interview by email from the residency coordinator.

We will be sending an invitation for a number of applicants by November 2nd and the rest before mid-November.

We are increasing our first year class to 16 residents this year. In three years, we will have 48 residents and three Chief Residents as our complement.

On the floors, we have a graded cap system where interns start off with four patients and then slowly work their way up to a maximum of eight patients. Seniors can expect to see a maximum of ten patients on their own and 16 when supervising interns.

The hospital has a large patient volume. Thus, residents do not provide coverage for all admitted patients. Our residents cover the patients that are admitted to the teaching floor teams only.

Currently there aren’t any fellowships available.

U.S. clinical experience is not a requirement. However, we assess the overall strength of the application as well as the competitiveness of the applicants to the program in the given year; thus, U.S. clinical experience is encouraged.
