NCH Begins The Transition To Epic

NAPLES, Fla. – June 14, 2021 The NCH Healthcare System is proud to announce that the conversion of our electronic medical record (EMR) system to Epic has officially begun.

This project offers a great opportunity to standardize and simplify the delivery of care across the healthcare system. This will serve to decrease the time patients may spend in the waiting room filling out paperwork, while increasing the time they have in front of their doctor. Records can be easily and securely shared between caregivers providing a seamless way to document and review care provided while avoiding duplication, saving time and money for the healthcare system as well as the patient. Standardization will also bring better communication, not only between care providers, but also between physicians and their patients.

Once complete, the Epic implementation will allow for one chart to follow patients throughout the continuum of care at any NCH hospital or physician’s office, or any other healthcare provider across the nation who uses Epic for their EMR.

“The new Epic system will make patient care front and center,” said Bryan Murphey, MD, Ambulatory Chief Medical Officer for the NCH Healthcare System. “It will allow NCH physicians to easily follow the medical care our patients may have received from their doctors elsewhere who also use the Epic system. Likewise, any other doctor the patient sees utilizing Epic will also be able to see the progression of care offered to their patients from an NCH physician.”

In addition to physicians across the country on the Epic system being able to access a patient’s record, NCH patients will also have access to their own records using Epic’s MyChart patient portal.

“We’re thrilled to start the transition to the new Epic system at NCH,” said Jon Kling, RN, Chief Nursing Officer at the NCH Healthcare System who is overseeing the Epic conversion. “Epic will not only make life easier for staff, but it will also allow patients to easily navigate and view their own health records whenever they wish. This is one more way that NCH is striving to make each and every patient experience with us a positive one.”
