Southwest Florida stroke survivor shares her inspiring journey on World Stroke Day

Every 40 seconds, someone in the U.S. suffers a stroke, with women, Hispanics, and Black Americans facing elevated risks. In honor of World Stroke Day on October 29, the American Stroke Association aims to raise awareness that strokes are preventable, treatable, and manageable.

Stephenie Whitfield, a stroke survivor and Bank of America executive, shares her story to highlight the importance of prioritizing health. After experiencing a stroke in 2018, Whitfield embraced a healthier lifestyle and advocates for awareness of stroke risks and prevention.

Dr. Mazen AbuAwad, an expert with the American Stroke Association, emphasizes that strokes require immediate medical attention to maximize recovery chances. The American Stroke Association encourages the public to learn stroke symptoms, use the F.A.S.T. method to recognize signs, and understand that quick action can save lives. Preventive steps like a balanced diet, regular activity, and managing conditions like high blood pressure and AFib are key to lowering stroke risk.
