Local philanthropists Jay and Patty Baker are making history with another incredible gift to enhance the lives of people in Southwest Florida. In addition to their previous gifts to several local nonprofits, including NCH, the Bakers recently announced a new donation of $10 million toward the new RM Schulze Family Heart and Stroke Critical Care Center being built at the NCH Baker Downtown campus. The $295 million, state-of-the-art facility will transform cardiac, stroke and vascular care in our area.
In recognition of the Bakers’ donation, NCH will name the catheterization labs and the boardroom of the future facility in their honor. The boardroom will provide much-needed meeting space for leadership and educational opportunities, and the cath labs will be crucial to the center’s mission, enabling a wide range of diagnostic and interventional procedures. Each year, the NCH catheterization team conducts more than 4,000 procedures, providing patients with rapid, high-quality care that significantly improves survival rates and long-term heart health. Those numbers are projected to increase as our community grows.
The Bakers are among the most impactful supporters in NCH’s history, influencing the care of thousands of patients for years to come.
“We are deeply honored by Jay and Patty Baker’s continued commitment to NCH,” says Paul Hiltz, president and CEO of NCH. “Their transformative gift is not just an investment in bricks and mortar—it is an investment in people, in lives saved and in the elevated quality of care we can provide. Thanks to their generosity, our patients will have access to the most advanced treatments available, delivered in a facility designed to support the very best outcomes.”
