A promising new treatment is bringing hope to patients with advanced ovarian cancer. NCH is now offering HIPEC, a procedure that delivers heated chemotherapy directly into the abdominal cavity during surgery. By applying chemo at a higher temperature and directly where cancer cells remain, HIPEC increases effectiveness while reducing many of the side effects seen with traditional IV chemotherapy. Early studies show encouraging results — including longer survival for some patients — and the technique is also being used for other abdominal cancers such as colorectal, pancreatic, and stomach cancer.
