NAPLES, Fla. – May 17, 2021 The NCH Baker Hospital Emergency Department (ED) will be completing phase two of the expansion project and opening its doors to the public on Tuesday, May 18 at 7 a.m. The current entrance to the existing ED will be closed at that time and community members seeking emergency care at the NCH Downtown Hospital should start using the new entrance. The new entrance sits just to the east of the current entry and is well signed and closer to parking for the convenience of our patients.
The ED project began in the Fall of 2019 with the opening of the first phase in January of this year which added a second floor with 18 observation rooms and six observation bays to better accommodate peak volumes of patients. The expansion and modernization allows us to double the ED footprint to nearly 47,000 square feet, all while improving the patient experience.
With the completion of phase two, the NCH ED at Baker Hospital is one step closer to completion. During this phase, we will open our new fast track area and 22 beds inside individual, glassed-in treatment rooms for improved privacy. New comfortable and welcoming waiting rooms for patients and their loved ones will complete this latest phase.
The next phase opens in Fall of 2021 and will add more private rooms. Upon completion of the entire project in early 2022, there will be a total of 43 private beds. Additionally, the new ED expansion will incorporate six resuscitation rooms with specialized equipment for acute, critical care of heart attacks, strokes and trauma.
