NCH Baker and North Naples Hospitals Nationally Recognized with an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

NAPLES, Fla. – May 10, 2022 NCH Baker Hospital and NCH North Naples Hospital have both received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for spring 2022. This national distinction recognizes our achievements in protecting patients from harm and error in the hospital. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. An “A” grade from the Leapfrog Group is the gold standard when it comes to patient safety and is a major achievement for those who earn it.

NCH has come a long way to achieve its A grade from Leapfrog. We have transformed the way we review data to improve our quality metrics and enhance the patient experience. We have pulled together a team to focus efforts on improving quality with an exceptional patient experience. Transparency with our staff and community, along with inviting physicians to be part of the decision-making process have contributed to the exceptional grades we have been recognized with.

“Patient safety and quality have always been a priority here at NCH,” said Carlos Quintero, MD, Chief Quality Officer, NCH Healthcare System. “Recognition such as this reaffirms the higher level of care and quality our patients can expect from NCH.”

“As the U.S. health care system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of the NCH Healthcare System for sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “An ‘A’ Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

“Our focus on quality at NCH has been a priority since I was offered the privilege of leading this great healthcare system nearly three years ago,” said Paul Hiltz, President and CEO, NCH Healthcare System. “I thank our entire staff for helping NCH achieve this recognition from Leapfrog, and for their dedication and persistence in providing for an exceptional patient experience each and every time.”
