Naples, FL – August 19, 2025 – The Rooney Heart Institute at Naples Comprehensive Health (NCH) becomes first in Florida to offer the latest next-generation transcatheter Abbott MitraClip™ and TriClip™ G5 system for patients with mitral and tricuspid regurgitation, commonly known as “leaky” heart valves.

Mitral regurgitation and tricuspid regurgitation occur when the valve between the top and bottom chambers of the heart fail to close properly, allowing blood to flow backward. Left untreated, these leaky valves can cause debilitating symptoms such as shortness of breath, swelling, fatigue, and can lead to serious complications including atrial fibrillation, heart failure, and even death. Historically, treatment options have been limited to high-risk surgery or medical therapy, which often does not successfully treat this disease.

The MitraClip™ and TriClip™ G5 system are designed to facilitate the function of these leaky valves without the need for open-heart surgery. Delivered to the heart via a small catheter inserted through the femoral vein in the leg, the device works by clipping together a portion of the valve leaflets to help them close more completely, significantly reducing the backward flow of blood.

The new MitraClip™ and TriClip™ G5 technology offers physicians enhanced control, precision positioning, and intuitive deployment, improving both procedural efficiency and patient outcomes. It is backed by clinical data demonstrating safety, effectiveness, and quality-of-life benefits.

“This milestone reinforces NCH’s commitment to remain at the forefront of structural heart care in Florida,” said Dr. Robert Cubeddu, President, NCH Rooney Heart Institute. “Patients can now benefit from the latest advancements of the MitraClip™ and TriClip™ G5 system, allowing patients previously considered too high-risk for surgery, a safe and effective option that can greatly improve symptoms and quality of life.” “Patients suffering from severe valvular regurgitation often have few, if any, effective treatment options,” said Dee Dee Wang, MD, Section Head of Cardiac Imaging, NCH Rooney Heart Institute. “With early access to both the MitraClip™ and TriClip™ G5 systems, we can address these challenging conditions in a minimally invasive way, helping patients feel better and live fuller, healthier lives.”

NCH’s first access to the MitraClip™ and TriClip™ G5 system underscores its commitment to bringing the most innovative andadvanced cardiac care to the state of Florida and beyond. The NCH Rooney Heart Institute continues to be a Center of Excellence in structural heart interventions, ensuring patients have access to life-changing therapies close to home.
