Naples, FL., December 2, 2025 – Naples Comprehensive Health (NCH) announced that its new Gynecologic Oncology program now offers HIPEC (hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy), bringing one of the nation’s most advanced and specialized cancer therapies to Collier County. The treatment is usually only available at select cancer centers, but with the first successful case performed by John McBroom, MD, Gynecologic Oncologist, with assistance from general surgeon, Robert Grossman, MD, NCH now becomes one of the few providers in the region capable of delivering this complex, life-extending option.

HIPEC is used for select abdominal cancers such as advanced ovarian cancer, appendiceal cancer, certain metastatic colorectal cancers and others. It is most effective when all visible cancer within the abdomen can be removed surgically, followed by a high-dose chemotherapy bath circulated directly within the abdominal cavity to target any microscopic disease left behind. Because chemotherapy is applied internally rather than through an IV, it can be used at higher concentrations to minimize exposure to the rest of the body while reaching areas intravenous chemotherapy cannot.

HIPEC procedures can last several hours and require a highly specialized surgical oncology team, advanced perfusion technology, and the ability to manage complex perioperative care. Historically, patients in our region had to travel to access centers equipped to perform HIPEC.

“Offering HIPEC at NCH means patients no longer need to leave the area for one of the most advanced treatments available for complex gynecologic and abdominal cancers,” said John McBroom, MD, Gynecologic Oncologist at NCH. “This therapy can significantly improve outcomes for carefully selected patients, and we’re proud to bring this level of expertise closer to home.”

The introduction of HIPEC at NCH strengthens its expanding cancer program and deepens its clinical collaboration with Northwestern Medicine, providing patients in Southwest Florida with greater access to expert second opinions, advanced treatment protocols, and strategic program guidance.

“HIPEC is considered one of the most sophisticated and demanding cancer surgeries performed today,” said Edward Grendys, MD, Medical Director of Gynecologic Oncology. “To perform it safely and effectively, you need the right surgeons, the right infrastructure, and a dedicated multidisciplinary team. NCH is now able to deliver all of that.”
