NCH Opens New Neurovascular Critical Care Unit to Patients

NAPLES, Fla. – December 28, 2022  NCH proudly announced the grand opening of the new Neurovascular Critical Care Unit (NVCCU) at the NCH Baker Hospital in downtown Naples at a ribbon-cutting event. The new Neurovascular Critical Care Unit at NCH is Collier’s largest and most technologically advanced dedicated to caring for those patients with brain, spine, nervous system and vascular system disease.

The unit features the Ceribell Rapid EEG Brain Monitoring program to ensure optimal care is provided for critically ill patients. The Rapid EEG is the first of its kind and is an early warning system that detects dangerous, non-convulsive seizures to save the brain during a seizure in a matter of minutes rather than hours like traditional EEG technology.

The state-of-the-art, 16 bed unit also boasts a NVCCU team including board-certified Neurocritical care physician, Neurosurgeons, Neurointerventionalist, Vascular Surgeons and other healthcare providers specially trained in the field of neurovascular and critical care with advanced instruction covering neuroanatomy, neuro assessment and neuro resuscitation in the event of an emergency. The type of patients who would benefit from the focused care available in the NVCCU include those suffering from stroke; severe brain injury or tumors; or those patients following a neurosurgical procedure or vascular surgery.

The NVCCU is a patient-centered unit with a dedicated waiting area where family members are encouraged to spend quality time with their loved ones and actively participate in their care to the extent they are able to. Patients’ length of stay in the NVCCU is determined by their progression and speed at which the patient is recovering.

Patients who meet the criteria for admission into the new NVCCU will be moved into the new unit beginning in late December.
