NAPLES, Fla. – May 12, 2021 NCH Heart Institute has been awarded Transcatheter Valve Certification from the American College of Cardiology (ACC) in recognition of its care provider leadership, quality program and exceptional patient outcomes. NCH is the fourth health care organization in Florida to receive this esteemed certification.
This certification from the ACC is due to the demonstrated expertise and commitment to treating patients with moderate to severe aortic or mitral valve heart disease with transcatheter valve implantation procedures. The NCH Heart Institute was awarded Transcatheter Valve Certification this month based on evaluation of the staff’s ability to meet standards for multidisciplinary teams, formalized training, shared decision-making and registry performance.
The ACC’s Transcatheter Valve Certification is an external review and certification process that pairs with established national clinical databases to monitor patient safety and real-world outcomes related to transcatheter valve therapies. Participation in established national clinical databases such as the STS/ACC and TVT Registry is required for hospitals interested in achieving Transcatheter Valve Certification.
“NCH has demonstrated its commitment to providing Southwest Florida with excellent heart care,” said Deepak L. Bhatt, MD, MPH, FACC, chair of the ACC Accreditation Management Board. “ACC Accreditation Services is proud to award the NCH Heart Institute with Transcatheter Valve Certification.”
The NCH Heart Institute (NHI) has offered award-winning, nationally recognized cardiac care to the residents of our community for 25 years. NHI is recognized for its Code Save-A-Heart Program, Open Heart Surgery Program, Structural Heart Program (TAVR, TMVI, Transcatheter PFO closures and WATCHMAN) and innovative, state-of-the-art technology. The NCH cardiology team of accredited physicians and staff is unmatched in expertise in our region and responds to cardiac emergencies in record time beyond the national standard. NHI prides itself on its complete care model which cares for a patient’s mind, heart and body. Our commitment to the patient experience proves that NCH Heart Institute is at the heart of what matters most.
“Superior quality care with an exceptional patient experience, each and every time, is the goal of the NCH Heart Institute,” said Kristin Mascotti, MD, Chief Medical Officer for the NCH Healthcare System. “This esteemed national certification from the ACC is just further recognition that NCH is committed to, and reaching our goal to provide exceptional, quality care to help our patients live a longer, happier, healthier life.”
The certification uses established national clinical measures to support clinical decisions and links process improvement to patient outcomes. Hospitals that achieve Transcatheter Valve Certification learn best practices for implementing evidence-based medicine to support patient-centered decision-making and can track key performance metrics to better identify opportunities for improvement.
“To be certified by the ACC for transcatheter valve implantation is recognition for the high quality outcomes our cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery programs provide to our patients,” said Tracey Roth, MD, Interventional Cardiologist at the NCH Heart Institute. “Our goal has always been to provide the very best cardiac care to our patients and this certification further validates that.”
