NAPLES, Fla. – March 28, 2023 The Wynn family, whose ancestors were some of the very first settlers of Naples, Florida, has announced a $1 million gift in support of enhanced cardiac care at the NCH Baker Hospital. The donation is intended to help NCH provide the best possible care for patients with cardiac conditions and it will go towards building the new proposed cardiac and stroke facility on the downtown campus.
Michael Wynn, the President of Sunshine Ace Hardware and Chairman of the Wynn Companies, is a current board member of the NCH Healthcare System and a long-time supporter of Naples’ first hospital. The Wynn family has a long-standing commitment to supporting a variety of initiatives in the Naples community, and this latest donation builds on their legacy of giving. This donation by the Wynn Family represents the largest single gift the family has made to date. The Wynn’s history in Naples began in Naples in 1938 when Peter Parley and Vida Wynn purchased the Bay Dock Hotel and grocery store near the city docks. Later, Don Wynn opened Naples’ first modern grocery store, Wynn’s Market, on 5th Ave, and in 1958 he converted the original building into a full-line hardware store-Sunshine Hardware. Today, Wynn’s Market operates two locations, one in downtown Naples and a satellite location in Key Largo. Sunshine Ace Hardware is one of top ten purchasers from Ace Hardware nationally with locations from Tampa to Marco Island. Wynn Properties owns/manages family real estate assets in Lee and Collier Counties, including Fifth Avenue.
“Our family has always believed in the importance of investing in initiatives that improve the lives of those in our community,” said Michael Wynn, NCH board member. “We are honored to support NCH and its commitment to providing the best possible care for patients with cardiac conditions and we hope that our donation will inspire others to give and support this vital cause.”
Their generosity will have a significant impact on the health and well-being of residents in Naples and the surrounding areas for generations to come by helping to offset the costs of the new proposed, five-story facility planned as the hub for enhanced cardiac, vascular and stroke services in Southwest Florida. NCH has been working tirelessly with city officials and meeting with neighbors nearest the site for input to make the center better for all. If NCH receives city approval, groundbreaking for the new site could be as early as winter 2024.
NCH is already a leading provider of cardiac care in America, being named as a top 100 hospital in the nation for cardiac care for eight years running. The Wynn family donation will help to ensure that NCH remains at the forefront of medical innovation while making certain that the highest quality of care will be available at NCH for patients with heart and stroke conditions.
“We are incredibly grateful for the Wynn family’s generosity and commitment to supporting elevated healthcare initiatives in our community,” said Paul Hiltz, NCH President and CEO. “Their donation will have a profound impact on our ability to provide the best possible care for patients with cardiac conditions, and we are honored to have their support. Their contribution will make a significant difference in the lives of many.”
