Welcome to the NCH Internal Medicine Residency website. Our program began training residents in 2017. We have strong academic support from our partners at the University of Central Florida. Our team of dedicated faculty support individual mentoring and guidance of our resident physicians as they progress towards board certification in Internal Medicine.
Our goal is to provide a comprehensive quality experience in internal medicine. We have all the resources and support to achieve our goal. Upon completion of their training, our residents will have had exposure and education in all aspects of ambulatory and inpatient medicine. They will be ready to answer our country’s need for primary care and we hope they remain in Southwest Florida to practice medicine in the community where they trained. We seek inquisitive, hardworking candidates who wish to be active participants in our journey.

Inpatient Wards
Our residents are mainly at the downtown NCH campus for inpatient wards. We currently have a total of 4 inpatient teaching teams, with dedicated academic hospitalists. Team 4 is a senior resident only team without interns.
You are guaranteed 1 weekend day off every week. The call system is on a rotating daily basis, with shifts broken up within the day from 6 am to 6 pm. Every 3rd day you will be the late admitting team from 2 pm till 6 pm.
Admissions are under a drip system, in which residents are expected to take an overnight admission and one daytime admission per day at minimum.
Admissions are triaged and pre-evaluated by a PGY-3 who rotates in the medical officer of the day rotation.
We have a dedicated night float resident team to cover our floor patients.
ICU Rotation
The 22-bed, state-of-the-art adult medical critical care unit has rooms equipped with Smart Room technology with individual computers and patient monitors.
Our internal medicine residents have expanded dedicated work areas. This has helped facilitate multidisciplinary team rounding.
Schedule:
- Interns rotate between short and long call daily with a guaranteed one weekend day off every week
- Seniors: one week of night float and one 24 hour call per three week block
