NAPLES, Fla. – July 13, 2023 The NCH Community Blood Center is pleased to announce the acquisition of a brand new bloodmobile made possible through the extraordinary generosity of more than 50 local community members. This state-of-the-art vehicle will serve as the second donated bus to the Blood Center, significantly expanding its capacity to collect life-saving blood donations.
To meet the needs of the community, especially during high season, NCH relies upon a steady stream of donors as it must collect at least 1,000 units per month of whole blood, of which 70% is collected on the bloodmobiles. The addition of a second bloodmobile allows the NCH Community Blood Center to expand the number of blood drives and reach more donors throughout Collier & South Lee Counties, ensuring an adequate supply of blood but also strengthening the bond between the center and the community it serves.
Both bloodmobiles were funded entirely through the generosity of financial supporters who are passionate about ensuring our community maintains an adequate blood supply. Longtime blood donor Bob Marino and his wife Nancy were the catalysts for replacing outdated vehicles, providing the very first gift. Other significant donors included the Martin Foundation, and the Collier Community Foundation. One of the bloodmobiles, already operational in Collier County, was funded entirely by the generosity of John and Connie Rakoske.
“The willingness of our neighbors to rally behind this cause truly exemplifies the remarkable spirit of compassion and unity that defines this community,” said Jim Mahon, Senior Vice President of NCH. “I thank all of our gracious donors for their support as, together, we continue to improve the accessibility of our healthcare services while ensuring a steady supply of life-saving blood resources for our patients.”
“The NCH Community Blood Center extends its deepest gratitude to all the generous community members who made this acquisition possible,” said Shannon Sanchez, Director of the NCH Community Blood Center. “Their selfless support will save countless lives and make a lasting impact on the health and well-being of individuals in need throughout Naples and the broader region.”
